Installing Wordpress

Okay, now we need you to install something called ‘Wordpress’ on the domain you just bought. Wordpress is a free open source CMS, Content Management System, that lets you manage your site with an easy to use graphical interface. It’s both extremely user friendly and powerful system. It’s actually what I use on all of my personal websites and it’s the same CMS that Earl-Grey-Tea.org is running. Okay, Lets jump right to it. You’re going to need to log into your ‘Cpanel’ page to install wordpress, and you can find that by heading over to yourdomain.com/cpanel [Type this into your URL area on Firefox or internet explorer, whichever browser you're using]. Upon typing it in, you should be prompted with a screen asking for your username and password, use the information that you used when creating your host gator account. If for some reason you forgot that already, it also in your welcome email.

Okay upon logging into the cpanel area you should be prompted by a screen asking if you want to go through some sort of tutorial. Skip it, you have the best tutorial in the world right here anyway! The screen you should be at looks like this:

Hostgator Control Panel

From here just scroll down towards the bottom of the page and click on the logo that says ‘Fantastico De Luxe’ It looks like a happy face, see the picture below:

Hostgator Fantastico

From here just click on the ‘Wordpress’ on the left hand panel under the sub header ‘Blogs’. It looks like this:

Fantastico WP

Okay we’re almost done (Simple right?). After clicking on ‘Wordpress’ on the left sidebar, click ‘New Installation’ (It should be in blue text and underlined).  Then from here we’ll see a screen asking us to fill out some information. Fill it out as seen in the picture below:

Now click Next, then Finish Installation, and tada you’re done! You have now successfully installed Wordpress on your domain! You can access the Wordpress Admin page from http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin

From there you can manage everything on your site! Keep in mind, from this point forward, every time this guide refers to the ‘Wordpress admin page’ it refers to http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin    area. Keep in mind, at this point your site will have a very ugly ‘look’ to it, but don’t worry about that at this stage of the game. We’re going to look at updating your design when we talk about putting ads on your site later in the ‘monetization’ section of this guide.

Okay, You’re done here and ready to move on! Just one thing I’d like to mention. If you felt that the last few sections were a bit complex and confusing, try not to worry, because after we get the site online and completely set up, you’ll never have to worry about going back into the Cpanel page or really touch any of the stuff we just set up, as after its set up, it’s good to go and doesn’t have to be changed. Anyway, let’s move on!
