Content feed Comments Feed

The first step to content creation is to devise a set of topics to write about. Remember, we’re aiming for very basic sites on niche topics such as earl grey tea [earl-grey-tea.org] so all we need is a handful of articles. I’ll get into the details of just what the article should contain in the next step but for now, some brainstorming tips.

Using our earl grey tea example, some topics to write about will come to mind right away such as the history of the tea, the health benefits of drinking tea, and so on. If you’re having a difficult time coming up with ideas to write about, there are tools out there to help you such as Google news:

Google News Search

From this search we see recent news items concerning the topic and can than write our own content based on what we find. While you only need 5-6 articles to create a low maintained site, if you ever want to expand the site it may be worthwhile to subscribe to the RSS feed of the search phrase so Google keeps you updated with new information. Another resource available for most (though not all) niches is Wikipedia:

Earl Grey Wiki Page

As you can see, Wikipedia has A LOT of information on A LOT of topics. You can certainly go to Wikipedia for some ideas on what to write about, but DO NOT COPY AND PASTE anything. Everything you write should be ORIGINAL. If you copy and paste content from any other site, your site will not rank on Google, as Google is smart enough to know when something was copied and it heavily penalizes sites on its search engine results if it has copied content. I really can’t stress this enough, you’re ONLY shooting yourself in the foot if you copy and paste things. It’s really not too hard to read something and reword it with your own ideas, plus you might even learn a thing or two about what your site is going to be about.

Another ‘technique’ when it comes to writing your articles for your site is so target specific keywords. Let’s assume that when you were doing market research for your keyword, you saw that ‘Earl Grey Tea’ was searched some 5,000 times a month, but another keyword, ‘Earl Grey Tea Green Tea’ was searched 1,000 times a month. If this was the case, your site should be about ‘Earl Grey Tea’ and your homepage should rank on Google for the term ‘Earl Grey Tea’, but it would certainly help if you had an article dedicated to ‘Earl Grey Green Tea’ as that way when someone searches ‘Earl Grey Green Tea’ on Google, they may be able to find the article you wrote about ‘Earl Grey Green Tea’. Perhaps the best method to deciding what to write about can be discovered by simply going back to the Google keyword tool and making articles specifically for what’s searched a lot relating to your niche.

Hopefully these and other sources will help you become better versed in your subject matter and provide enough fodder for a half a dozen or so unique articles. Let me stress this one last time search engines can spot copied text so never copy & paste! Instead, learn what you can and write unique articles! A working knowledge of the English language is a large plus but a large vocabulary is not required.
